Am I employed or self-employed?

How to know if you are employed or self-employed, the difference between the two and how that effects your Liveforce Crew App.

Employed or Self-employed for Liveforce Crew App

Under Company Details there is a section called Employment Status.  Here you must select whether you are Employed or Self-employed.

If there is only one option available in Employment Status section it that means the company is only recruiting staff with that particular employment status.

Some companies will take both types on employment status, some take only one.  If this is the case there will be no option to choose - there will only be one option available (either employed or self-employed).

This is down to the discretion of each company whether they take on employed or self-employed staff or both, and not something that Liveforce can control or change.

If you are unsure about your employment status or have questions about a particular company's policy over employment status you must contact that company directly.

Self-employed

If you're self employed you will typically manage your own tax and invoice a company for work you do. You will either do your own tax return or you will have an accountant who does it for you.

You will be provided with a Unique Tax Reference by HMRC which you will need to complete data fields in the Liveforce Crew App. (applicable UK only).

If you are self-employed and that option is available in the Liveforce Crew App these are the steps you must follow to complete your data.

1. Select the Self-employed option as below

2. Input UTR

3. Press SAVE

Employed

Employed means you are on a company's payroll and you receive a payslip. Your taxes will be paid by the company who employs you, so you won't fill out a tax return.
